Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka, Ambassador E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe presents Letters of Credence to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP)
Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe presented Letters of Credence to the Executive Secretary Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana of UNESCAP on 13th September 2024 at the UNESCAP Secretariat in Bangkok.
Sri Lanka Pavilion Shines at the 70th Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair
The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka inaugurated the Sri Lanka Pavilion at the prestigious 70th Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair on 09 September 2024. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand, Vuttikrai Leewiraphan, officially inaugurated the Sri Lanka Pavilion, marking a significant milestone in the collaboration between Sri Lanka and Thailand in the gems and jewellery sector.
Ambassador Jayasuriya received the Royal Permission with effect from 29th September 2019, accepting her as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to represent Sri Lanka in the Kingdom of Thailand, upon which, she assumed all official functions. Following the formalities of presentation of Credentials, the ceremonial culmination of the accreditation process, Ambassador Jayasuriya is permitted to engage with Thai Royalty as well.
In the brief conversation with HM the King, Ambassador Jayasuriya conveyed the warm Greetings of H.E. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Madam Rajapaksa to their Majesties the King and the Queen. HM the King, in response to Ambassadors statement on long cherished deep relations between the Kingdom of Thailand and Sri Lanka which runs back to over 8 centuries and is firmly rooted on the bedrock of Theravadha Buddhism, recalled his personal visit to Sri Lanka and the warmth with which he was received. Ambassador Jayasuriya also stated that the year 2020 marks the 65th Anniversary of the establishment of formal Diplomatic Relations between the two countries. His Majesty requested the Ambassador to convey his personal best greetings to H.E the President and assured that the Government and all institutions would extend their best support to the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to strengthen relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand during the tenure.
Ambassadors from Singapore, Nepal, Colombia, Switzerland, and Maldives also presented Credentials at the ceremony along with the Ambassador of Sri Lanka.
