At the invitation of Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER), the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand and Permanent Representative to United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), C. Colonne recently delivered a Special Address in the Inaugural Session of the “1st Asia Pacific E-Commerce Policy Summit” which was jointly organized by ICRIER and United Nations ESCAP South and South West Asia Office in New Delhi, at the India Habitat Centre (IHC) in New Delhi.

Ambassador of Sri Lanka and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP, C. A. Chaminda I. Colonne, led the Sri Lanka Delegation to the 80th Commission Session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, (UNESCAP) from 22nd to 26th April 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand, under the theme “Leveraging digital innovation for sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific” and elected as a Vice Chair of the Bureau for the 80th Commission.

Recently, the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Board of Investment of Thailand organised an awareness programme on the benefits of the Sri Lanka-Thailand Free Trade Agreement (SLTFTA) and investment opportunities in Sri Lanka under the theme “Sri Lanka: The Future for Investment” at the One Start One Stop Investment Center (OSOS) of the Thailand BOI.

On 14th February 2024, the Executive Director of Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre (ADPC) Hans Guttman paid a courtesy called on Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand and Permanent Representative to UNESACP, and Board Member of ADPC , C.A. Caminda I Colonne at the Sri Lanka Mission in Bangkok and discussed on ongoing, upcoming activities in Sri Lanka and strengthening cooperation between ADPC and Sri Lanka. Deputy Executive Director of ADPC Aslam Perwaiz, Partnership and Stakeholder Engagement Coordinator Apitsada Wetchakit,and First Secretary/Head of Chancery A.W.S. Samanmali, also joined meeting.

After signing Sri Lanka – Thailand Free Trade Agreement (SLTFTA) on 3 rd February 2024 in Colombo, and making new era of Sri Lanka – Thailand bilateral relations, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Phumtham Wechayachai, joined as Guest of Honour at Celebrations of Sri Lanka’s 76th Anniversary of Independence in Bangkok held at the Siam Society under the Royal Patronage in Bangkok on 09 th February 2024 organized by the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Thailand.

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin successfully concludes Official Visit to Sri Lanka, 3-4 February 2024

Prime Minister Thavisin was in Sri Lanka on an invitation extended by President Ranil Wickremesinghe, to participate at the 76th Anniversary celebrations of Sri Lanka’s Independence as Guest of Honour and to witness the signing of the Sri Lanka – Thailand Free Trade Agreement (SLTFTA). In addition, both parties renewed the Air Services Agreement which was originally signed in 1950 and entered into a MoU on cooperation in the Gems and Jewellery sector. The Prime Minister was accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Permanent Secretary of Foreign Affairs and other senior dignitaries of the Thai Government and a high-level business delegation.
