Sri Lanka Pavilion Shines at the 70th Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair
The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka inaugurated the Sri Lanka Pavilion at the prestigious 70th Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair on 09 September 2024. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand, Vuttikrai Leewiraphan, officially inaugurated the Sri Lanka Pavilion, marking a significant milestone in the collaboration between Sri Lanka and Thailand in the gems and jewellery sector.
Ambassador of Sri Lanka Meets President of Thai Travel Agents Association to Strengthen Tourism Ties
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand Wijayanthi Edirisinghe met with Mr. Charoen Wangananont, President of the Thai Travel Agents Association (TTAA) recently to discuss on enhancing tourism collaboration between the two countries.
58th Students from St. Bridget’s Convent in Colombo, Sri Lanka joined the Pathumthani University Sport Tournament with Thai students on 28th November – 1st December 2023 Pathumthani at Samkhok School Pathumthani in Thailand.
St. Bridget’s Convent won the Championship Cup for Netball under 17 and Runner Up in Basketball under 16 and Runner Up in Netball under 19.
Ambassador of Sri Lanka and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP, C.A. Chaminda I. Colonne joined the Opening Ceremony of PTU Tournament Thailand 2023 which augurated by Pol. Lt. Gen. Kamronwit Thoopkrajang, the Governor of Pathumthani at Samkok School, Pathumthani on 28th November 2023.
During her speech, Ambassador & Permanent Representative to UNESCAP stated that “Sport in Sri Lanka is a significant part of Sri Lankan culture. Although the Sports Ministry named volleyball the national sport, the most popular sport is Cricket in Sri Lanka. Rugby Union is also popular. Other popular sports are water – sports, badminton, athletics, football, basketball and tennis. Sri Lanka’s schools and colleges regularly organize sports and athletics teams, competing on provincial and national levels. Winning the Cricket World Cup in 1996 and being runners up twice thereafter have taken Sri Lanka to greater heights as a world leader in Cricket. If we trace back the history of sports in Sri Lanka, the year 1948 can be termed as a golden year of sports. Sri Lanka first participated at the Olympic Games in 1948. Sri Lankan athletes have won a total of two Olympic silver medals, both in athletics. Sri Lanka has won many awards at the Commonwealth Games, World Championship, Asian games and South Asian Games bringing credit to the country”.
Vice President of Pathumthani University, Asst. Prof. Dr. Nithima Yuenyong, Staff of the Pathumthani University, Chairman of the Accreditation Service for International Schools, Colleagues & Universities, Dr. Maurice K. Dimmock, Director of Sports, Ministry of Education of Sri Lanka, Upali Amarathunga also joined the event.
