Thai congratulated Sri Lanka on the assumption of IORA Chairmanship for the year 2023 – 2025

Sri Lanka showcased strong commitment to sustainable financing at the Fifth Session of the Committee on Macroeconomic Policy, Poverty Reduction and Financing for Development held in Bangkok.

The Fifth Session of the Committee on Macroeconomic Policy, Poverty Reduction and Financing for Development was held from 19-21 November 2025 at the Unite Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok. The Session was opened by Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). During the opening session, special remarks were made by H.E. Ahmed Mazin, Minister of State for
Finance and Planning of Maldives, Mr. Benjarong Suwankiri, Vice-Minister of Finance of Thailand and the Secretary-General of UNCTAD. The meeting brought together key member States,
including Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Maldives, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Türkiye, the United States of America, and Viet Nam, reflecting strong regional engagement in advancing inclusive and sustainable development financing.

Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok Hosts “Sri Lanka: Your Next Best Destination”, Tourism Promotional Evening, to Mark the 70th Anniversary of Sri Lanka–Thailand Diplomatic Relations

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau and Sri Lankan Airlines, organized “Sri Lanka: Your Next Best Destination”, Tourism Promotional Evening, on 24 November 2025 at the Avani Riverside Hotel, Bangkok, to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand.

เมื่อวันที่ ๑๑ ตุลาคม ๒๕๖๖ นายสีหศักดิ์ พวงเกตุแก้ว ผู้ช่วยรัฐมนตรีประจำกระทรวงการต่างประเทศได้เข้าเยี่ยมคารวะนาย Dinesh Gunawardena นายกรัฐมนตรีศรีลังกา ในช่วงการประชุมสภารัฐมนตรีสมาคมแห่งมหาสมุทรอินเดีย ครั้งที่ ๒๓ โดยฝ่ายไทยได้แสดงความยินดีต่อการเข้ารับตำแหน่งประธานสมาคมแห่งมหาสมุทรอินเดีย (IORA) วาระปี ๒๕๖๖ – ๒๕๖๘ ของศรีลังกาและความสำเร็จในการเป็นเจ้าภาพจัดการประชุมสภารัฐมนตรีแห่งมหาสมุทรอินเดีย ครั้งที่ ๒๓
ในโอกาสดังกล่าว ฝ่ายศรีลังกาย้ำถึงความสัมพันธ์ทวิภาคีที่แน่นแฟ้นและเป็นมิตรมาอย่างยาวนานระหว่างสองประเทศ โดยมีรากฐานจากความสัมพันธ์ทางพุทธศาสนา และนายกรัฐมนตรีศรีลังกามีความยินดีเป็นอย่างยิ่งที่ได้รับทราบว่าช้างพลายศักดิ์สุรินทร์ได้ถูกนำไปรักษาที่ประเทศไทยและได้รับการดูแลเป็นอย่างดี ทั้งนี้ ฝ่ายไทยยินดีที่ได้รับทราบว่าการเจรจาจัดทำความตกลงการค้าเสรีระหว่างไทยกับศรีลังกามีความคืบหน้าอย่างมีนัยสำคัญ ในขณะเดียวกัน ฝ่ายศรีลังกาได้เสนอให้ฝ่ายไทยมีการเยือนศรีลังกาในระดับสูง

On 11 October 2023, His Excellency Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Mr. Dinesh Gunawardena, Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, on the sidelines of the 23rd Meeting of Indian Ocean Rim Association Council of Ministers, during which the Thai side congratulated Sri Lanka on the assumption of IORA Chairmanship for the year 2023 – 2025 and for successfully hosting the 23rd Meeting of IORA Council of Ministers.
On this occasion, the Sri Lankan side reiterated the long-standing and cordial ties between the two countries, which were bounded by Buddhist affinity. The Prime Minister of Sri Lanka was pleased to learn that the elephant, Sak Surin was repatriated to Thailand safely and received medical treatment. The Thai side welcomed the significant progress of the Thailand-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiation. The Sri Lankan side further proposed a high-level visit by the Thai side to Sri Lanka.
