Sri Lanka and Thailand Strengthens Defence Cooperation

Ambassador and Permanent Representative Wijayanthi Edirisinghe met with General Nipat Thonglek, Vice Minister for the Office of the Prime Minister of Thailand, to discuss on strengthening defence cooperation between Sri Lanka and Thailand mainly focusing human trafficking issues. The meeting, held in Bangkok on 09.01.2024, was also attended by senior officials from Thailand’s National Intelligence Agency and the National Security Council.

Minister of Environment Nazeer Ahamed led the Sri Lanka delegation to the 79th commission of UNESCAP held at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, (UNESCAP)in Bangkok and delivered the keynote speech at the side event ‘Connecting Local, National and Regional Strategies to Achieve Carbon Neutrality in Asia and the Pacific’ and made country statement at the Special Session on ‘Catalyzing Climate Finance and Investment’.

Ambassador of Sri Lanka and Permanent Representative to the UNESCAP, C.A. Chaminda I Colonne, was a Vice Chair of 79th Commission. Senior Advisor to the President on Climate Change, Ruwan Wijewardene, Director General of the Sustainable Development Council, Chamindry Saparamadu, Advisor to Hon. Minister of Environment Samantha Abeywickreme, First Secretary A.W.S. Samanmali, First Secretary (Commercial) Vireshika Bandara and Director (Environment Planning and Economics) of the Ministry of Environment K.N.N Vidyalankara were included in the delegation.
