Sri Lanka Participates in the BIMSTEC Ambassadorial Roundtable Dialogue on Cooperation for Disaster and Climate Resilience in the Bay of Bengal Region
The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe participated in the BIMSTEC Ambassadorial Roundtable Dialogue on “Cooperation for Disaster and Climate Resilience in the Bay of Bengal Region”, held in Bangkok on 16 October 2025.
Sri Lanka’s Minister of Justice Hon. Ali Sabry highlighted that economic transformation underpinned on green growth and stronger law enforcement and rights protection regime (as an enabler to achieve all SDGs) are the key strategies identified by Sri Lanka to recover from the Covid 19 pandemic and advance the full implementation of the SDGs. He further emphasized that Sri Lanka is taking steps to unlock new levels of capital through innovative financing mechanisms to achieve SDGs during challenging times as a result of the impacts of the Covid 19 pandemic.
The Ninth Asia Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development is convened under the auspices of UNESCAP (as a hybrid event) from 28 to 31 March in Bangkok, Thailand.

W. S. Samanmali-Second Secretary and Deputy Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the UNESCAP; Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Bangkok represented Sri Lanka delegation at the forum and Mr. R. P. A. Wimalaweera-Additional Secretary–Ministry of Economic Policies and Plan Implementation, Mr. R. H. W. A. Kumarasiri-Director General-National Planning Department, Ms. Sheron Hewawaduge-Assistant Director-Sustainable Development Council of Sri Lanka joined virtually from Colombo.
