On 22nd July 2024, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Cambodia with residence in Bangkok and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (UNESCAP), C.A. Chaminda I. Colonne and Spouse Stephen Senanayake was granted an audience by His Majesty King Preah Bat Norodom Sihamoni of the Kingdom of Cambodia to bid farewell at the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh.

on 1 July at the age of 93 years. Affectionately called as “Aunty Sybil” by over several generations of kids, with her unique style of storytelling and arts, she won many accolades for her work spanning 70 years. Her recent work titled ‘Wonder Crystal’, was entered into the ‘Guinness Book of World Records’, in March 2020, which had in its printed version 1200 different endings, selected from among over 20,000 creations sent by children to mark this year’s International Children’s Day. She has authored over 200 children’s story books and several of them have won international awards such as ‘Umbrella Thief’, and also been translated into many other languages. As she leaves the mortal world, she is surely going to remain in the hearts and minds of not only the children, but all those of us, who enjoyed her stories as kids. We join in bidding farewell to ‘Aunty Sybil’… May she attain the supreme bliss of Nibbana!
