The Ambassador & Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, recently hosted Ms. Sri Lanka 2025, Prathiba Liyanarachchi, at the Official Residence of the Ambassador in Bangkok. The meeting was attended by members of the Embassy staff and several Sri Lankan ladies residing in Thailand.

The gathering was held in parallel with the global celebration of International Women’s Day, providing a meaningful platform to recognize and highlight the important role of women in promoting cultural exchange, creativity, and international collaboration.

During the meeting, discussions focused on potential avenues for future collaboration between Sri Lanka and Thailand, particularly in the fields of fashion, textiles, and cultural industries. Special attention was given to the possibility of promoting joint initiatives that combine Thai silk with Sri Lankan batik, thereby creating distinctive designs that celebrate the rich textile traditions of both countries.

Ms. Liyanarachchi expressed keen interest in exploring innovative design concepts inspired by the work of the late Her Majesty Queen Sirikit and Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya, noting that such inspiration could contribute to future collaborative fashion projects that blend Thai elegance with Sri Lankan craftsmanship.

Participants also discussed opportunities to engage Sri Lankan designers, artisans, and women entrepreneurs in collaborative ventures aimed at promoting sustainable fashion and preserving cultural heritage, while further strengthening people-to-people connections between Sri Lanka and Thailand.

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that empower women, promote cultural exchange, and foster creative partnerships between the two countries.
