The staff of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok marked the traditional Thai New Year, Songkran, with customary rituals and celebrations at the Embassy premises, reinforcing the cultural and religious ties shared between Sri Lanka and Thailand.

The event commenced with the traditional pouring of water on the hands of senior staff members as a gesture of respect and blessing for the New Year. The ceremony reflected the deep-rooted Buddhist cultural attractions between the two countries and served as a symbol of goodwill and renewal.

Following the Songkran rituals, the staff also resumed official duties after the Sinhala and Hindu New Year with traditional Sri Lankan sweetmeats, signifying unity and the spirit of festivity.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Wijayanthi Edirisinghe highlighted the significance of cultural celebrations in strengthening people-to-people ties and fostering mutual understanding. She also extended her best wishes to the staff and their families for a prosperous and peaceful New Year.
