The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Thailand, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe had a meeting with Mr. Aslam Perwaiz, Executive Director of the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) at the ADPC premises, to discuss continued cooperation in post-disaster recovery and long-term resilience building in Sri Lanka following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah. During the meeting, H.E. the Ambassador expressed
her sincere appreciation for the timely technical and monetary assistance extended by ADPC in response to the impacts of Cyclone Ditwah, which caused widespread damage across several parts of Sri Lanka. In this regard, the Ambassador formally handed over a Letter of Acknowledgement from Hon. H M Vijitha Herath, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign
Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka to the Executive Director of ADPC, conveying the Government of Sri Lanka’s appreciation for ADPC’s support and solidarity.
Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Bangkok Formally Commences Official Duties for the Year 2026
The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Bangkok, Thailand ceremonially commenced work for the year 2026 on 02 January, in keeping with government directives on the commencement of duties of public institutions for the New Year.
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Cambodia, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, met with the Minister of Commerce of Cambodia, Cham Nimul at the Ministry of Commerce in Phnom Penh on 26 February 2025. The meeting aimed to strengthen bilateral trade, investment and economic cooperation between Sri Lanka and Cambodia.
During the discussions, Ambassador Edirisinghe highlighted the longstanding and friendly relations between the two countries and emphasized Sri Lanka’s commitment to deepening economic ties. She underlined the potential to enhance bilateral trade, focusing on key sectors such as agriculture, textiles, and tourism and encouraged Cambodian investors to explore opportunities in Sri Lanka’s priority sectors, including manufacturing, logistics), agriculture and technology.
Ambassador Edirisinghe also showcased the growing footprint of Sri Lankan companies in Cambodia, particularly in finance, logistics, IT, and tourism sectors, while noting the increasing interest from more IT companies to explore opportunities in the Cambodian market.
Minister of Commerce of Cambodia, Cham Nimul welcomed the proposals and acknowledged Sri Lanka’s proactive approach to enhancing bilateral relations. She highlighted Cambodia’s openness to foreign investment. The Minister also commended Sri Lanka’s role in promoting regional cooperation and acknowledged Sri Lanka’s commitments within the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).
Both sides agreed to explore specific initiatives, including the exchange of trade delegations, joint business forums, and technical cooperation in areas of mutual interest. The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both nations reaffirming their dedication to fostering economic growth, mutual prosperity and regional stability.
