Minister of Foreign Affairs meets with Ambassador of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to Thailand
On 15 January 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Minister of Foreign Affairs, had a discussion with H.E. Mrs. E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, Ambassador of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to Thailand, to raise the issue of the wellbeing of the two Thai elephants in Sri Lanka.

Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Thailand, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, paid an official visit to Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University (MCU) to discuss avenues for strengthening religious and academic cooperation between Sri Lanka and Thailand, rooted in their long-standing Theravada Buddhist heritage.
The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka paid calls to the Ambassador of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) to Thailand, H.E. Mr. Khamphan Anlavan and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Cambodia to Thailand, H.E. Hun Saroeun, at their respective embassies in Bangkok. These diplomatic meetings served to strengthen bilateral relations and reaffirm Sri Lanka’s commitment to fostering cooperation with both Lao PDR and Cambodia, both of which are accredited to the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Thailand.
During the meetings, the Ambassadors discussed key areas of mutual interest, including trade, cultural exchanges, and regional cooperation in Southeast Asia. They also explored opportunities to enhance diplomatic ties and collaboration on multilateral platforms, particularly within the frameworks of ASEAN and other international organizations. The Ambassador of Sri Lanka expressed her appreciation for the longstanding relations shared with both countries and emphasized Sri Lanka’s desire to further deepen ties with Lao PDR and Cambodia.
Both Ambassadors expressed their support for furthering cooperation between their respective countries and Sri Lanka, noting the potential for significant progress in areas such as tourism, education, and trade. The Ambassador of Sri Lanka also extended her warm invitation to his Lao and Cambodian counterparts to visit Sri Lanka, underscoring the importance of continued dialogue to build on the existing relations.
