Sri Lanka Highlights Victim-Centered Consular Assistance at Regional Dialogue on Transnational Crime and Human Rights
A Regional Dialogue on the Nexus between Transnational Crime and Human Rights was successfully convened in Bangkok on 13–14 May 2026 under the auspices of the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) Thailand in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and with support from the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC).
Sacred Alms Giving Ceremony at the Official Residence of the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand honours Visiting Senior Buddhist Clergy
The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Thailand organized a special alms giving ceremony at the Official Residence of the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand on 12 May 2026 in honour of the visiting Buddhist delegation led by Most Venerable Warakagoda Dhammasiddhi Sri Pagghananda Gnanarathanabidhana Mahanayake Thero, the Chief Incumbent of the historic Asgiri Maha Viharaya and the Mahanayake thero of the Asgiriya Chapter of the Siyamopali Maha Nikaya.
Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Thailand Wijayanthi Edirisinghe and the delegation from the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) of Sri Lanka visited the National Defence Studies Institute (NDSI) of Thailand on 01 August 2025 in sideline to the study tour aimed at enhancing bilateral defence cooperation and strategic dialogue between Sri Lanka and Thailand. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Commanding General Pongtep Gaewchaiyo of the NDSI.
During the visit, a bilateral discussion was held between Ambassador and Permanent Representative Wijanthi Edirisinghe and Commanding General Pongtep Gaewchaiyo with the participation of Captain S.K. Vidanage, Head of the Sri Lankan Defence Delegation, focusing on strengthening defence cooperation, promoting mutual understanding, and exploring opportunities for enhanced military exchange programmes between the two countries.
Commanding General Pongtep Gaewchaiyo provided a detailed briefing on the recent situation along the Thailand–Cambodia border and assured that the Royal Thai Armed Forces are committed to resolving the issue in a professional and peaceful manner through dialogue and negotiations. He also highlighted the significance of regional cooperation and confidence-building measures in ensuring long-term stability and security.
The 23-member defence delegation, comprising officials from the Tri Forces and three foreign delegates from Bangladesh and Nepal, engaged with officials of the NDSI during a presentation on regional bilateral security and strategic issues.
This visit underscored the long-standing and friendly relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand, and reaffirmed the commitment of both nations to strengthen their collaboration in the field of defence and security through continued engagement and partnership. The meeting was also attended by Head of Chancery of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok, Samanmali Atalugama and MMAJJ Gunawardena,USP psc GR of Sri Lanka Army.
