Ambassador of Sri Lanka Meets with Group Chief Executive Officer of Minor International PCL, Thailand, to Strengthen Tourism Promotion Efforts

A special Buddhist fundraising event was held in support of a landmark humanitarian medical initiative aimed at enhancing access to orthopedic care in Sri Lanka.

15 Sri Lankans Rescued from Cybercrime Centres in Myawaddy, Myanmar to be Repatriated on 07 May 2025
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, in close coordination with the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Thailand and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Myanmar, has successfully facilitated the rescue of 15 Sri Lankan nationals who had been trafficked and forcibly employed in cybercrime centres in Myawaddy, Myanmar on 06th May 2025. The rescued individuals are scheduled to be repatriated to Sri Lanka on 07 May 2025.

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe met with Group CEO of Minor International PCL and Group CEO of Minor Hotels, Dillip Rajakarier, a leading global hospitality group with over 550 hotels across 56 countries on 28.10.2024. The discussion focused on collaborative efforts to enhance Sri Lanka’s tourism promotion in Thailand and expand bilateral tourism ties.
Minor International is a Thai multi-national company based in Bangkok, Thailand. The three core businesses of Minor International are hospitality, restaurants, and lifestyle brands distribution, operated under subsidiary companies Minor Hotels, Minor Food, and Minor Lifestyle, respectively.
Minor Hotels, which operates a diverse portfolio of eight brands Anantara, Avani, Elewana Collection, NH, NH Collection, nhow, Oaks, and Tivoli has established a strong presence in Sri Lanka. Its properties in Sri Lanka include the Anantara Kalutara Resort, Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort, Avani Kalutara Resort, NH hotels in Colombo and Bentota.
During the meeting, the Group CEO Dilip highlighted several strategic initiatives to enhance Sri Lanka’s tourism sector and expressed his interest in supporting the Embassy with future promotional activities.
Ambassador Edirisinghe emphasized the significance of leveraging Minor Hotels’ global footprint to spotlight Sri Lanka as a premier travel destination for Thai tourists. The meeting underscored a shared commitment to attract high-value tourists to Sri Lanka. Counsellor (Commercial) of the Embassy Vireshika Bandara also joined the discussion.
