Sacred Alms Giving Ceremony at the Official Residence of the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand honours Visiting Senior Buddhist Clergy

The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Thailand organized a special alms giving ceremony at the Official Residence of the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand on 12 May 2026 in honour of the visiting Buddhist delegation led by Most Venerable Warakagoda Dhammasiddhi Sri Pagghananda Gnanarathanabidhana Mahanayake Thero, the Chief Incumbent of the historic Asgiri Maha Viharaya and the Mahanayake thero of the Asgiriya Chapter of the Siyamopali Maha Nikaya.

A delegation of 33 members from the Sri Lanka Army Logistic Staff School, paid an official visit to the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok on Monday, 18 May 2026, as part of their overseas study tour in Thailand.

Welcoming the delegation, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Thailand, H.E. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, highlighted that this was the first official course visit by the Sri Lanka Army Logistic Staff School to Thailand, reflecting the growing defence cooperation and longstanding friendship between Sri Lanka and Thailand.

The Ambassador expressed confidence that the visit would provide valuable professional exposure and meaningful engagements that would contribute positively to the participants’ academic and military training. The delegation was also encouraged to experience Thailand’s rich culture and warm hospitality during their stay.

The Ambassador further conveyed appreciation to the Defence Attaché of Sri Lanka in Bangkok, Air Commodore Vajira Jayakody, for facilitating the visit at short notice and for coordinating official visits to Thai military and other key establishments as part of the programme.

The delegation, headed by Brigadier Sudeera Jayasinghe, Commandant of the School, together with faculty members and course participants, attended the occasion. During the stay, the delegation is scheduled to visit the Royal Thai Army School of Logistics, the Defence Technology Institute, the Royal Thai Navy Ordnance Department, and the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center, which are among the main official institutions included in the programme.

The Embassy extended its best wishes for a successful and productive visit and reaffirmed the importance of continued cooperation and professional exchanges between the armed forces of Sri Lanka and Thailand.
