Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok Participates in the International Conference on the Global Partnership against Online Scams in Bangkok
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), successfully co-hosted the International Conference on the Global Partnership against Online Scams in Bangkok, Thailand. The Conference aimed to strengthen and complement ongoing regional and international efforts to combat online scams and to enhance global cooperation to address existing operational gaps in tackling this complex form of transnational crime. The event brought together over 300 participants from 60 countries, including ministerial-level representatives, senior officials, international organizations, the private sector, and civil society.
Sri Lanka’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP Chairs 421st Session of the ACPR in Bangkok
The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Thailand, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, participated in the 421st Session of the Advisory Committee of Permanent Representatives (ACPR) held at the United Nations premises in Bangkok. The Ambassador was invited to chair the final ACPR session of the year, reflecting Sri Lanka’s active and constructive engagement with the UN system in the region.
The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Bangkok facilitated the official visit of Minister of Health and Mass Media of Sri Lanka Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, to participate in the 20th Asia Media Summit held in Siem Reap, Cambodia on 23 July 2025.
The Summit organized by the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) in collaboration with the Ministry of Information of the Kingdom of Cambodia. The Asia Media Summit is a premier regional platform that brings together, Ministers, media leaders, policymakers, and professionals. This year’s summit attracted over 200 international delegates and media stakeholders from across the Asia-Pacific region.
The three-day event began with pre-summit workshops on 21 July 2025, focusing on enhancing career development and skills for media professionals in the region.
Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa joined the summit on 23 July 2025 and actively engaged in a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the event. He met with Minister of Information of Cambodia Neth Pheaktra, State Minister and Chief Spokesperson at the President’s Office of Maldives Heena Waleed; the delegation from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU); and Ms. Philomena Gnanapragasam, CEO of AIBD, along with the AIBD leadership team, including Don Dhammika, Programme Manager, and Leon Loganathan, Legal Advisor.
During the closing ceremony, Dr. Jayatissa joined fellow Ministers and media leaders in signing the Declaration of Angkor Initiative 2.0, which outlines a collective commitment by AIBD member states to foster a more responsible and inclusive media landscape and combat disinformation.
In a special gesture, Minister Jayatissa presented an award to, Minister of Information of Cambodia Neth Pheaktra, conferring the title of “Special Envoy of Information Integrity”, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to strengthening information integrity and media freedom in the region.
The 20th Asia Media Summit concluded with the official announcement that the 21st Asia Media Summit will be hosted by the Republic of Maldives in 2026.
