Sri Lankan School Chess Players Shine at the 18th Asian School Chess Championships in Bangkok
Sri Lankan students showcased their exceptional chess skills at the 18th Asian School Chess Championships, held from 1st to 11th December 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand. The event, co-organized by the Thailand Chess Association under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation (ACF) and the International Chess Federation (FIDE), saw participation from 32 countries across Asia.
Sri Lankan Automobile Component Manufacturers Explore Opportunities in Thailand
A 12-member delegation of Sri Lankan automobile component manufacturers successfully concluded a week-long exposure visit to Bangkok from 30th November to 6th December 2024. The visit was jointly organized by the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Bangkok, the Sri Lanka Export Development Board and the Thai-Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce. Its primary objective was to enhance the delegation’s understanding of Thailand’s advanced automotive sector and to foster meaningful business collaborations between the two countries.
In a momentous occasion, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP, met with the Sri Lankan community for the first time following the presentation of credentials to His Majesty the King of Thailand. The reception was organized by the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Bangkok and held at the Embassy on 21 st October 2024.
The event commenced with the blessings from of Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim and Christian clergy, symbolizing unity and harmony among different communities. The gathering was well-attended by members of the Sri Lanka Association of Thailand, the Thai Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce, and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.
In her address to the attendees, Ambassador Wijayanthi Edirisinghe emphasized the significance of fostering connections between the Sri Lankan community in Thailand and the Embassy. She highlighted the potential for collaboration in various sectors, including trade, culture and education. The Ambassador also expressed gratitude for the warmth and the vibrant spirit of the Sri Lankan community in Thailand.
Ambassador Edirisinghe also emphasized the plethora of activities undertaken by the Embassy since her arrival, including initiatives aimed at promoting trade and investment, cultural exchange and bolstering bilateral relations. She also outlined future plans and promotional activities to celebrate the upcoming 70 th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand, emphasizing the significance of collaboration in trade, tourism, and cultural heritage.
The Ambassador encouraged the diaspora to participate in the planned events, which will showcase the rich traditions of Sri Lanka and further enhance ties with Thailand.
Following the address, guests enjoyed a delightful reception featuring a variety of traditional Sri Lankan dishes and the renowned ceylon tea, allowing attendees to savor the rich culinary heritage of Sri Lanka while networking with one another.
The event marked a significant step in sustaining ties between the Sri Lankan community and the Embassy, setting a positive tone for prospective engagements.
