Sri Lanka Ambassador Leads Tribute at Herostone (Nadukal) 2nd Anniversary Commemoration in Kanchanaburi,Thailand
The 2nd anniversary of the Herostone (Nadukal) was commemorated at Wat Thaworn Wararam, honoring the tens of thousands of Asian civilian forced laborers who perished during the construction of the Burma Railway construction, also known as the Thai-Burma “Death Railway,” during World War II.
Symbol of Faith and Friendship: Buddha Statue Gifted to Sri Lanka by Thai Devotees
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok is pleased to announce the ceremonial handover of a seven-foot-tall Buddha statue to the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, at Wat Hatainaresh Temple.
C.A. Chaminda I. Colonne, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Thailand and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP together with staff of the Mission commenced work ceromonially, on 1st January 2024 at the Chancery. The event comprised hoisting of national flag, singing the national anthem, observing two-minuet silence for war heroes, reading oath of Public Servants in Sinhala, English and Thai languages and delivering remarks by the Ambassador and Permanent Representative.
While highlighting the successful achievements of the Mission in the year 2023, the Ambassador thanked the Mission’s staff for their contribution. The Ambassador stated that the economy of the country is recovering and going forward after the economic hardship which faced during the last few years with the assistance of IMF and the international community.
Further she emphasized and elaborated on the role of employees of the Sri Lanka Missions abroad to achieve the Government’s vision under the theme of “A Prelude to the Stable Future” by achieving sustainable development goals as a properous state.
