Thai National Secretary-General Reaffirms Commitment to Combat Human Trafficking and Rescue Victims in Myanmar
Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, called on Mr. Chatchai Bangchuad, Secretary-General of the National Security Council (NSC) of Thailand on 10.01.2025. The meeting focused on fostering greater collaboration in the area of security and addressing shared challenges affecting both nations and the region.
Sri Lanka and Thailand Strengthens Defence Cooperation
Ambassador and Permanent Representative Wijayanthi Edirisinghe met with General Nipat Thonglek, Vice Minister for the Office of the Prime Minister of Thailand, to discuss on strengthening defence cooperation between Sri Lanka and Thailand mainly focusing human trafficking issues. The meeting, held in Bangkok on 09.01.2024, was also attended by senior officials from Thailand’s National Intelligence Agency and the National Security Council.

เอกอัครราชทูตศรีลังกาประจำประเทศไทยและผู้แทนถาวรประจำ UNESCAP ซี.เอ. ชามินดา ไอ. โคโลนเน ร่วมพิธีเปิดการแข่งขันกีฬา PTU Tournament Thailand 2023 ซึ่งได้รับเกียรติเป็นประธานพิธีเปิดจาก พล.ต.ท.คำรณวิทย์ ธูปกระจ่าง ผู้ว่าราชการประจำจังหวัดปทุมธานี ณ โรงเรียนสามโคก ปทุมธานี เมื่อวันที่ 28 พฤศจิกายน 2566
ในระหว่างการกล่าวสุนทรพจน์ เอกอัครราชทูตและผู้แทนถาวรประจํา UNESCAP กล่าวว่า “กีฬาในศรีลังกาเป็นส่วนสําคัญของวัฒนธรรมศรีลังกา แม้ว่ากระทรวงกีฬาจะตั้งชื่อวอลเลย์บอลว่าเป็นกีฬาประจําชาติ แต่กีฬาที่ได้รับความนิยมมากที่สุดคือคริกเก็ตในศรีลังกา สมาคมรักบี้ก็เป็นที่นิยมเช่นกัน กีฬายอดนิยมอื่น ๆ ได้แก่ กีฬาทางน้ําแบดมินตันกรีฑาฟุตบอลบาสเก็ตบอลและเทนนิส โรงเรียนและวิทยาลัยของศรีลังกาจัดทีมกีฬาและกรีฑาเป็นประจำในการจัดการแข่งขันระดับจังหวัดและระดับชาติ แข่งขันคริกเก็ตเวิลด์คัพในปี 1996 และการเป็นรองแชมป์สองครั้งหลังจากนั้นได้นําศรีลังกาไปสู่จุดสูงสุดในฐานะผู้นําระดับโลกด้านคริกเก็ต ถ้าเราได้ติดตามประวัติศาสตร์ด้านกีฬาของศรีลังกา ปี 1948 (พ.ศ. 2491) เป็นปีทองของกีฬา ศรีลังกาเข้าร่วมโอลิมปิคครั้งแรกในปี 1948 ศรีลังกาชนะ 2 เหรียญเงินในการแข่งขันกรีฑา ศรีลังกาชนะหลายรางวัลในเกมส์การแข่งขันเครือจักรภพ ชิงแชมป์โลก เอเชี่ยนเกมส์ และเซาท์เอเชี่ยนเกมส์ที่นำชื่อเสียงมาสู่ประเทศชาติ”
